We are two curlfriends, “Curlie” and “Locs” sharing our natural hair journeys and discussing topics revolving around the natural hair community. Curlie Locs is a celebratory site that features a variety of Hair, Life & Style as we feature natural individuals within the curlie and loc’d hair community. Follow us as we attempt to bridge the gap between loc’d and loose naturals.
Registered Nurse/Health & Fitness Specialist/Style Consultant
I am currently a student at UC San Francisco School of Nursing, on a path to be a Nurse Practitioner. When I’m not studying, caring for others, or spending time with family, I spend time admiring the videos and posts of natural ladies. I’m looking forward to sharing my journey with you in hopes that my trial and error may assist you in your journey.
Curlie’s Hair Story:
Years leading up to being natural, I had been pressing my hair and spending tons of money at the shop. Eventually I decided that my time in the shop had run its course. August 9th, 2013 was the very day that I got fed up with my hair. That day, my boyfriend assisted me in cutting off all my straight ends leaving it uneven, the next day I went to the shop and had it shaped an cut correctly. Since then I’ve had a significant amount of growth and I’m looking forward to sharing my journey with you.
Chief Editor/ Social Media Coordinator/ Photographer/Makeup Artist
Early in life I had a passion for all things creative such as fashion, makeup and photography. After I graduated from FIDM in 2002 with a Degree in Merchandise Marketing Product Development I started one of my two small businesses. One of which provides makeup, photo and video services and the other provides business consulting and management services. With this combination of skills along with my added love of natural hair, a blog seemed the most fitting.
Locs Hair Story:
With the assistance of protective styling such as sew-in’s and wigs I’ve been natural for about 12 years. I’ve always had long hair but it is thin and three totally different textures, which makes it very difficult to find products for. The trial and error was beginning to be expensive and time consuming which led me to wigs, that way I would be able to maintain my hair on a daily basis. I’ve always wanted to loc my hair, but since they are (somewhat) irreversible I was too chicken to ever do it but I always thought of locs to be elegant and regal.
After tons of research and 1st hand advice from the many people I know personally with locs, I started my loc journey recently on 10/28/14 (whoop whoop). I am excited to share my journey, as well as previous experiences with you all.
